
Keeping Your Class 100 Cleanroom Actually Clean
If you’re running a Class 100 cleanroom, you already know the nightmare of outgassing. One tiny flake of material or a whiff of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) hitting the air, and your whole batch is ruined. Most standard heating elements just aren’t built for this. They tend to flake or “off-gas” the second they get up to temperature. That’s why we stick with high-purity synthetic quartz infrared lamps. Why quartz? Here is the thing: we use a specific kind of fused silica quartz. It’s pure enough that you don’t have to worry about ions migrating around while the lamp heats up and cools down. Unlike cheap glass or low-grade quartz, this stuff doesn’t break down or start “smoking” when you push it hard. The best part is how it heats. It uses direct infrared radiation. You’re heating the actual workpiece, not the air around it. This is huge because it stops those annoying convection currents that usually kick up dust from your benches or the floor. Getting the power right We build these lamps to handle a lot of heat in a very small space. When you use a high-wattage tube in a tight footprint, it ramps up fast. Really fast. That means your parts spend way less time sitting around waiting to get hot, which gives ambient contamination less time to settle on them. We can tweak the lengths and voltages to fit whatever power rails you’ve already got in place. But a quick heads-up: these lamps put out a massive amount of energy. You’ve got to think about your heat sink. If your housing isn’t vented or shielded properly, you’re going to warp your frame. Just make sure your cooling system can handle the total wattage you’re throwing at it. Setup and upkeep We kept the installation dead simple. We use standardized connectors, so these are basically drop-in replacements. No soldering, no messy wiring on the cleanroom floor. Cleaning them is just as easy. The quartz surface is non-porous, so if something gets on there, you can just wipe it down with IPA. It won’t etch the surface or mess with the output, even after thousands of hours of use. And we don’t use any coatings. No paints, no films—nothing that could peel or flake off over time. It stays inert, and your environment stays clean.
